A team of researchers from the Howard Hughes Medical
Institute (HHMI) Albert Einstein College of Medicine have developed a mutant
gene that lacks protein, herpes, a vaccine that can prevent herpes virus.
Studies show that the new vaccine is supplied with the
mutated gene, effectively prevents against HSV-1 offenders herpes and HSV-2,
herpes, which causes genital ulcers.
Both of these two strains are known to remain latent for
years before symptoms message objects. Both strains infecting nerve cells in
the virus.
About 30 years, researchers in the field of immunology have
tried to create a vaccine for herpes, based on one of an outer surface protein
of the virus. This protein is known that the immune response of the organism.
This new discovery may change the design of potential vaccines herpes forever.
There is currently no vaccine against herpes virus and still
health problem worldwide.
"We have a new very promising candidate for
herpes," William Jacobs, HHMI investigator at Albert Einstein College of
Medicine, said. "But it can also be a good candidate as a vaccine vector
for other diseases of the mucosa, in particular HIV and tuberculosis."
"With herpes sores continue to get," said Jacobs.
"If our vaccine work in humans as it does in mice, the administration at
an early age could completely eliminate waiting herpes."
